Produktbeskrivelse
Ten minutes after his father's death, Thomas enters Odense Hospital. Involuntarily, he thinks back to his upbringing in the 1970s and 1980s: a childhood of awkward dance school lessons, crazy family vacations, competitions in the diving club and budding sexuality. But when grown men talk about men and women, when classmates talk about gender and boyfriends, Thomas gets a creeping feeling of not quite belonging. It is as if a glass wall is rising between him and the outside world. When Thomas meets Sidsel as an adult and has children, the feeling of being an enigma to himself grows. Life in the nuclear family ends in the darkness of depression, and he decides to seek out Overbeck's light cabinet. In the light cabinet, Overbeck's lamps illuminate step by step the paths that Thomas has followed throughout his life. And when Thomas meets Nora with that bright look, he can put an end to his story. Together they create - in the middle of Thomas' family life with Sidsel and children - a closed space where he can get closer to the riddle. Lyskabinettet is a novel about becoming free from the narratives about oneself. About finding new ways of being in your gender, your sexuality and your family. It is a teeming, fabulous and funny novel about solving the rebus that every human being is. The press writes: »Tells vividly and honorably the story of a man who gets lost in his own darkness...« – **** Børsen »You can also, and rightly so, I think, call the novel a modern educational novel [. ..] Read in this way, Lyskabinettet is not just elementary entertaining, but also good to get wise." - ***** Berlingske "Morten Ramsland bravely lifts the covers and reveals an existential schism about heterogeneous gender identification in a predominantly homogeneous society; an area that is not yet so well informed in mainstream literature." - Jyllands-Posten "Never before has a young man's path to finding his sexual identity been portrayed with such great empathy and with so many nuances in Danish [...] it is terrific reading which, to me, overtakes Ramsland's phenomenal Hundehoved by several lengths." - ***** Dagbladenes Bureau "Ramsland has enriched Danish literature with an impressive work with great human insight." - Literature page
